Another tell tale sign of a legitimate site is that they will want people who have a certain demographic. Scam sites will just want to get as much money as possible out of those who don't know any better, and will obviously take anyone. Legitimate sites want your information, but only if it will be useful to the companies who are paying them.

The legit survey sites will often turn you down if you don't match what they are looking for, or they can give you a vastly reduced amount of work. The good news is that there are enough companies to provide to most demographic groups in one way or another. You will doubtless find some who are looking for people from another country, another region, or another income group. Don't worry, just move on and you will find someone you can work with. Having to find the right match is one of the inevitable chores of finding legit paid surveys.
